FAQ
About Our New Snaps
How do I know your snaps are now safe?
As you may be aware, we recently instituted a voluntary recall of some of our baby items because of quality issues with our snaps.
To address this issue all of our rompers now have a new and improved construction using snaps from a different manufacturer that are bigger and stronger and have been tested thoroughly.
Here are all the things we've changed:
- Larger snaps with longer prongs for stronger attachment. We went back to the next size up which we used for years in the past without any problems.
- Wider, thinner binding, so the snaps don't have to go through as many layers of fabric and have a wider area to attach to.
- Improved testing: We bought a pull tester for the factory so they can test the snap attachment strength at any time, and make sure everything they produce is safe.

Why Organic?
Twenty-five percent of all pesticides are used on conventionally-grown cotton, and these harmful toxins have been linked to many forms of cancer as well as pose other health and safety threats to people, wildlife, and the environment. Processing this cotton also uses even more chemicals such as chlorine bleach, heavy metal dyes, and formaldehyde resins, which have also been proven to be hazardous to humans and cause environmental damage.
Organic cotton, on the other hand, advocates safe and sustainable farming practices. Winter Water Factory's items are almost entirely made from organic cotton, which is grown free of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. To be labeled as "organic," cotton must meet strict federal regulations, such as using seed for farming that is not genetically-engineered. According to the Organic Trade Association, "Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture."

Why Made in USA?
At Winter Water Factory, we do everything that we can to manufacture our items within our community, creating jobs for the people around us. This last year, we consolidated all of our cut-and-sew operations to a factory a few blocks from our home in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. Someday, we hope to be able to consolidate all of our contracted labor to the New York area or at least the East Coast.
American-made goods boost the national economy as well. Manufacturing items within the United States keeps jobs and the craftsmanship skills that accompany these occupations within the country. The items produced from these American factories increases the gross domestic product (GDP) of the United States, and our domestic suppliers pay taxes within the US instead of overseas. Furthermore, American workers who are employed in the manufacturing business have money to spend on consumer items, growing the national economy even more.
Buying made in USA products also promotes ethical manufacturing practices. Many outsourced factories, often known as "sweatshops," run under unethical conditions, such as paying workers below a liveable wage, promoting unsafe working conditions, and poor treatment of factory employees. Under United States laws, these conditions are prohibited in American factories, so you can be sure that items made completely in the United States were manufactured in an ethical fashion.
In addition to supporting the local and national economy, made in USA products are also good for the environment! When items are made overseas, petroleum consumption from shipping becomes exponentially larger than if these products were all manufactured locally. Buying made in USA items drastically reduces our carbon footprint since these products don't have to criss-cross oceans to get to us.
